Remodel Your Bathroom – And Your Life!
Stress and noise can take a toll on your mood, energy and health. When homeowners call SilverMark Design & Build about master bathroom remodeling, they’re also often looking for a way to "remodel" busy lives. For some, the dream master bathroom is like a spa. For others, it’s a Zen-like sanctuary for meditation and renewal.
10 Ideas for Your Master Bathroom Remodeling Project:
Creative cabinetry. With the right materials, furniture-quality cabinetry can be at home in your master bathroom. To maintain an uncluttered spa-like feel, we can plan cabinets carefully to accommodate everything from small cosmetics to Costco-size packages.
Room for two. Busy mornings are easier when you don’t have to wait for your turn in the bathroom. Remodeling to include a separate toilet room offers privacy while double shower heads and his-and-hers vanities let you both get ready in half the time.
Bigger showers. Roomy showers with lots of glass and a seat are popular. If space is tight, enjoy a practical shower the way it’s done in Europe: Just use tile and special drains to turn your entire bathroom into a shower. You may wish to consider a curbless shower if someone in your home has mobility or flexibility issues.
Soaking and walk-in tubs. Homeowners often opt for the serenity of a soaking tub rather than a whirlpool tub. Some homeowners who plan to live in their homes as long as possible are selecting walk-in tubs so they can enjoy their tub even when they are less agile.
Sun-filled spaces. Include skylights and windows that give you plenty of natural light so you can throw down a yoga mat for a true salute to the sun!
Green options. Here in the Twin Cities area, eco-friendly recycled glass tile is popular, along with locally-sourced stone countertops.
Steam away aches and stress. Steam showers are awesome! For even more relaxation: a master bath steam room system.
New finishes. You may want to think beyond chrome and brass fixtures. Today, the wide selection of finishes lets you consider options such as Tuscan bronze or even black.
New ventilation systems. From fans with humidity sensors, to automatically defogging steamy mirrors, today’s technologies create bathrooms that are more comfortable and lower maintenance, too.
Heated floors. As part of your master bath remodeling, consider radiant heating for the floors. It’s a small extra that adds a great deal of comfort!
A new master bath will reward you daily with pleasure, peace and quiet, and perhaps better health. Plus, a smartly upgraded bathroom helps sell a home and, even in this real estate market, a master bath remodel can still deliver excellent ROI. Help Us Help Feed Hungry Families in Our Area
My Rotary Club supports the Joyce Uptown Food Shelf, an emergency food bank serving the inner-city neighborhoods of southwest Minneapolis. While these neighborhoods might not seem "needy," more than 5,300 families rely on the Food Shelf each year. Children make up more than half of the 15,000 people receiving emergency food.
I serve at the Food Shelf every few weeks and see first hand all the good being done. I also see how more and more people are finding that without the Food Shelf they simply cannot feed their families.
I’d like to ask your help in meeting this growing local need. A $25 donation can stock the Food Shelf with 125 lbs. of food. Just think what $100 or even $500 can do!
Whatever you can give will make a difference! Your donation is fully tax deductible. Because Rotary volunteers administer this project, 100% of what you give goes for food.
Please write your check to Joyce Uptown Food Shelf and send it to me here at:

Elvis and Michael Jackson
If you’re like me, you get so busy with the day-to-day that you don’t always look ahead. Fortunately, my financial advisor, Jon Mayer, does look ahead for me. He recently alerted me to something I’d like to pass along to you all:
Did you know that having a will can actually be an estate planning mistake. I didn’t either — and apparently neither did Elvis or Michael Jackson. In terms of what we need to know about wills, trusts and probate, Jon has written an eye-opening blog: Read more...
Maintenance Tip: Check Your Smoke Alarm Batteries
When your clocks "Fall back" for the return of Standard Time, it is also a good time to check your smoke alarm batteries. (Do the same when you "Spring forward" too.) More than 90 percent of homes have smoke alarms, but millions of these alarms have either dead or missing batteries.
